Fire in the Sky: Fourth of July in Avoca, Iowa

Join Avocans for an iconic small town 4th of July celebration. Events on Avoca Main Street, the charming historical downtown, begin at 11 a.m. and include a kids pedal tractor pull, classic auto show, food vendors, and midway games to fundraise for our community's Legion Hall restoration project. At 2 p.m. hundreds line the street for one of the best parades in southwest Iowa. Celebrations continue at Edgington Memorial Park, and conclude at dusk with a fireworks display at the Avoca CountryView Golf Course, visible from almost anywhere in the city. This year's parade theme is Fire in the Sky, and the Avoca Volunteer Fire Department is our Grand Marshall.

Independence Day Celebration
July 4, 2023
Chautauqua Park
Enjoy a family-friendly day in Oakland on July 4th! The day starts with the annual fire department pancake breakfast from 7-10:30 am. The car show by Arbor Bank runs from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. with live music. Vendors, food, and other booths will be set up beginning at 9 a.m. and run until noon or later. Nishna Heritage Museum will be open from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. with crafts for kids and a scavenger hunt for older kids and adults. The swimming pool will be open from 12 noon -5 p.m. Return to the park at dusk for the grand fireworks show!
